I’m the parent of 4 grown children who are now adults in their 30’s. My wife and I have stressed that when they are behind the wheel of a car, they control their destiny and possibly the destiny of others by how they drive. And I’m sure they are tired of especially hearing me say – “Don’t text and drive!” and for that matter, “put your phone away when you are in the car and WAIT until you are parked to do anything with it.”

However, I’ve also watched my own temptation and that of my wife to not do as I have advised. I then realized that the emphasis on teen and 20 something drivers texting isn’t a large enough demographic. I’m convinced by the number of adults I see driving with one hand and talking on their mobile phones that this a universal safety issue. Sure, the experience of the younger drivers lends itself to more problematic driving issues especially as they deal with distractions. But texting and driving plus general mobile phone glances are everywhere regardless of age!

I hesitated showing the following two video’s because they are truly tough to watch. But they spoke to me personally and think they could to you and anyone else you know that might need to review this blog post and be reminded: TEXTING AND DRIVING CAN KILL YOU!

Next, this is a 5+ year old video from Tredegar Comprehensive School and Gwent Police (Gwent is located in south-east Wales,UK). They presented a half hour drama entitled “COW –The film that will stop you from texting and driving.,” This is the 4 minute trailer video that has been viewed by nearly 3 million people around the world.
