Let’s cover TWO terms of coverage on today’s blog.  These are completely optional for the insured to choose if they have a need for them.  They are the most inexpensive coverage on an auto policy and most of our clients include them in their portfolio of coverages.

Rental Reimbursement:

Rental reimbursement coverage is an optional policy offered by most insurers that covers the cost of a rental vehicle if you’re unable to drive your car for almost any reason. This coverage is not required as part of your car insurance policy but is beneficial if you do not have a secondary vehicle and need to travel to work or school while your car is undergoing auto repair.

Rental reimbursement coverage typically helps pay for rental car costs when your car’s damages are covered by your comprehensive and collision coverages. The coverage only applies when your own insurer is paying for repairs to your car. Rental reimbursement insurance can only be used after an accident, not for routine maintenance or the use of a rental car while on vacation. Rental reimbursement insurance will pay for the cost of a rental car up to certain policy limits. 

Towing and Labor:

Towing and labor coverage is an optional add-on to car insurance policies that covers the cost of towing the vehicle to a repair shop when it is unable to be driven, as well as a specified amount of necessary labor charges at the place of the breakdown. This coverage protects against some of the costs and hassles associated with common roadside breakdowns like dead batteries, flat tires, or lockouts. It can be added to standard car insurance for a small extra cost. Typical car insurance does not cover towing if the vehicle breaks down on the side of the road. To add towing coverage, you must first have comprehensive coverage on your policy.

These two optional coverages are usually chosen as needed coverages by our insurance clients.  They are useful and come in handy when you need a replacement vehicle or your vehicle needs help getting to a repair or you get locked out.
