The increase of distracted driving over the last several years has been devastating for so many. I am not one to judge an accident but from our experience with accidents and reports I have read, there was a serious accident in Franklin this past Sunday. Among many possible conclusions that can be drawn from an accident like this, distracted driving could be a contributing factor.
Franklin Police report that a couple was driving west on Murfreesboro Road. The vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle that was stopped at a red light waiting to turn left onto Royal Oaks Blvd. That couple was killed in the accident. Two adults and four children were in the second vehicle. They were seriously injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. The deceased couple was well-known and a beloved couple in the city. This was so tragic for many.
Sadly, approximately 3,000 deaths each year are caused by distracted driving.
Distracted driving is any activity that diverts the driver’s attention from the primary task of driving – like texting or talking on the phone, eating, and drinking, talking to people in the vehicle, adjusting the stereo, entertainment or navigation system.
