No matter how much we hear it, no matter how many we know that got caught or no matter how alarmed we get about the subject, getting others to realize the consequences of drinking while driving can have overwhelming devastating results. Weekends, holidays, vacations or how about this article recently released by the Associated Press that caught my attention regarding Spring Break, 2014! One terrible decision by a young teenager from Nolensville has cost him 10 years prison!
“Nolensville teen gets 10 years for fatal DUI crash
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) – A 19-year-old from Tennessee will spend at least 10 years in prison for a drunken spring break crash that killed another tourist in Panama City Beach.
Circuit Judge Michael Overstreet sentenced Bruce George of Nolensville, Tennessee, to a little over 10 years after he pleaded no contest to DUI manslaughter charges (in December, 2014). He said George didn’t deserve treatment as a youthful offender.
George was accused of drunk driving in a March, 2014 crash that killed 22-year-old Brandon Beverly of Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Panama City News Herald reports George will also be required to speak to high school students twice a year about the dangers of drunk driving. And he will give the Bay County Chamber of Commerce a presentation on how his decisions during Spring Break have affected his life.”

One decision to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated changed this young mans life and so many others around him! These sad stories always get our attention here at the agency and over the years, we have had young and old alike come to us needing insurance after a DUI. What I have learned with my customers is that it only takes one event to change their driving life. Unfortunately, that isn’t true with others but those I have worked with who have gone through the process the State of Tennessee requires after conviction. They have realized they don’t want to do that again and become some of our most safe driving customers. In the story above about Mr. George, he has a much longer and punishing road ahead of him and it’s obvious the judge in Florida wanted him to help others see what his bad decision cost him.
This is no doubt – tough stuff! But we are here to help on the insurance side of things for anyone caught in this awkward place in their driving life! We have one particular company that truly specializes in this type of coverage and their rates and underwriting latitude is the best in the country in my view. If we can help you or someone you know with this issue or any other insurance, we’re here and ready to help. EMAIL us at info@BentonWhite.com or call any of our staff at 615.377.1212.
