Senior Adult Living – An Increasing Population!

A personal experience!

We have gone through the experience of relocating my 93-year-old mother to a Senior Adult Living facility in Woodstock (Atlanta), Georgia.  She had lived in Alabama all her 90 years until she made the move 3 years ago.  You can count on one hand how many times she vacationed in other parts of the country.  With her roots as a farm girl in North Alabama, she lived for 40+ years in the home she & my dad built – much of it as a widow when my dad passed away in 1983.  So, this move was a life event for her and our family.

We all knew we had to get this right for her safety, comfort, and enjoyment.  After about six weeks in the facility, she adjusted really well and made many friends.  The connection with a “like” population of people has been life-giving for her.  So, this residence for her has been another chapter in her storied life. We still feel very good about her experience in this facility.

Mom doesn’t qualify for Planned Care Assisted Living at this point.  As she gets a little older, that time may be close by. She already lives on the assisted living side of the facility and has more watchful care, which has been exceptionally good for her. Tiered senior living is “the thing” to make life easier for this mature population who need easy transitions as they need more care.

Resources to help anyone needing senior adult living or assisted living care are plentiful.  AssistedLiving.org (https://www.assistedliving.org/) is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults by compiling comprehensive research, the latest studies, and real-world insight from experts, caregivers, and seniors into easy-to-understand, actionable guides and resources. They have gathered data for over 20,000 assisted living communities serving seniors across the U.S. and nearly 100 statewide to help people choose the best facilities that suit their needs. Here is a dedicated section that provides information for families and senior citizens about emerging assistive technologies for fall prevention: https://www.assistedliving.org/best-medical-alert-systems/

The facilities being built are growing at an incredible rate.  This avenue is so welcome for our family that a senior like my Mom can have a great community experience in this chapter of her life.

Of course, Long-term Care insurance rises to the top of the needed list with this type of subject matter.  You can spend a few dollars per month now.  Later, when you or your parents age into my mom’s situation, you have insurance to cover some or all the costs that the estate would have to be drained to pay for.  My mom bought one of the first long-term care policies I marketed many years ago.  She has always said it was one of the best policies she has ever bought because that insurance can pay some of her assisted living expenses if needed.  That has given her peace of mind that my brother and I won’t need to be responsible, and we get that!  My wife and I have long-term care for the same reasons!

At Benton White Insurance, we insure many folks with long-term care coverage.  If we can assist you or any of your family with coverage, feel free to TEXT or CALL us at 615.377.1212 or EMAIL us at info@BentonWhite.com.  Since we are an independent agency, we have several companies we can choose from to find the best coverage for the best rates!  We would be honored to earn your Long-Term Care business or any other insurance!

Thanks for reading our blog!  We trust you learn a little something each week when we release these.  At least, that is our hope!

Stay safe!
